Limestone – A Young and Soft Sedimentary Stone

Limestone is a sedimentary and calcareous building stone composed mainly of calcite, a mineral made of calcium carbonate. Because of this, it belongs to both the sedimentary and calcareous stone categories.

It is often called the youngest sedimentary stone, as it forms in a shorter period of time compared to other sedimentary rocks.

This quicker formation process gives it lower resistance to erosion, meaning it can easily break or wear under impact, abrasion, or contact with sharp objects.
